Advice for renting a house

Posted in assignment on August 1, 2010 by gubby

-          There is form for everything, so make sure you fill them out thoroughly

-          Make sure you fill in the conditions form properly so you don’t get caught up with money you shouldn’t have to pay at the end of your rent.

-          Applying for a house is like applying for a job

-          First appearances are very important

-          Be careful of scammers that may take your money and not provide you with anywhere to rent (do not apply through an ad in the paper with just a mobile number)

Phishing

Posted in assignment, info tec on March 3, 2010 by gubby

Phishing on the internet is most commonly used through instant messaging sites such as face book and msn messenger. Phishing is the process where others attempt to get your personal details such as passwords and user names through a fake website that looks almost identical to the real one even when using server authentication.

An example of phishing on twitter:

lkolb: hi, i’m 24/female/horny… i have to get off here but message me on my windows live messenger name Frances928love@hotmail.com  (please whatever you do, do NOT contact or use this address!)

Advice on phishing:

1. dont ever give your personal bank account details over the internet.

2. try not to go to any of the sites emails prompt you to unless you are possitive they are not fake

3. if you do get hooked by phishing report it to the police

Facebook – Tribute Page

1. Tell me a little about Elliott Fletcher and Trinity Bates?
Trinity Bates an 8 year old girl from Bundaberg was taken from her bed while sleeping, murdered and left in a drain for police to find by an accused 20 year old intellectually disabled man who lived only blocks away from her home.

Elliott Fletcher a 12 year old school boy from Bayside Catholic School was allegedly stabbed by a fellow13 year old class mate. Paramedics tried to save Elliott’s life at the scene but he was declared dead when he arrived at the royal children’s hospital.

2. Why is facebook involved and why is there an issue? People started up tribute sites for these young Australians who were killed for others to offer comfort to all involved in the deaths. All was fine until some people posted unacceptable pornographic material on the pages.

3. Briefly describe the approach taken by the facebook staff when the issue was brought to their attention.
Once the Facebook staff were informed of the tribute pages being slandered the pages were taken down.

4. hyperlinks-Trinity Bates, Elliott Fletcher, Facebook – faceless

5. How do you feel about this? What action could you take to ensure that it does not happen again? These two stories are both terrible and make you think what sorts of people are living out there amongst us. I believe that there is not really that much Facebook can do about it until they are informed of the inappropriate material being posted. The people who start up these pages have full control and can take down material once it has been put up so they are the ones with the responsibility to do so before it is seen. Maybe Facebook could make it that you would have to have whoever makes the page moderate posts before they go up.

Online learning

Posted in assignment, info tec on February 25, 2010 by gubby

1. what kinds of courses would benefit most from online learning? The kinds of courses that would benefit most from online learning are those that you use the internet or are not available to study at your school. ITA would benefit greatly

2. what do you think is lost when you have no face-to-face teacher? If you don’t have a face to face teacher it would take longer for you to get feedback or if you need help.

3. do you think online learning could ever replace schools as we know them? I don’t think online learning could ever replace schools as we know them now because students would get too distracted without anyone to keep them in line.
